Spring and summer are all about low-key hair. If you’re looking to make a statement, we suggest you throw it on top of your head instead. Here are seven spring and summer hairstyles that are perfect for the warm weather:
The Basic Side Ponytail
The side ponytail is a classic—and with good reason! It’s easy to do, requires minimal effort, and can be worn on any occasion or dressed up or down depending on how much hair you leave out (to minimize bangs).
We love this look straight off the runway at Prabal Gurung during New York Fashion Week earlier this year.
The best part? You don’t need fancy tools like combs or clips; just use your fingers to separate into three sections before securing with bobby pins along both sides of your head.
Bangin’ Updos
Bangs have been trending since last season and aren’t going anywhere anytime soon—especially this time around since they work so well with bold colors like reds and oranges (which will be huge in spring).
But if bangs aren’t really your thing then opt for an updo instead! Styled loosely around the face with some strategically placed braids gives us major Grecian vibes without being too dramatic—you know what we mean?

The Lazy Girl Top Knot
The great thing about a top knot is that it works for all hair types and textures. You can use a hair tie to get the look, but if you have curly or thick hair, you may need some help from a brush.
To keep your braid loose and airy, use your fingers instead of a comb to pull through the strands of your mane at the bottom of your ponytail.
When braiding is what you’ve got in mind this spring/summer season, don’t forget about texture spray! This product will give you extra volume when styling with braids.
When spraying onto damp hair before you begin styling with bobby pins—and even after—this product will give a lot more hold than just plain old water alone would offer.
If there was ever an occasion for full volume in our lives (and there are plenty), spring/summer 2022 is it!
Slicked-Back Ponytails
To achieve this look, you’ll want to use a hair gel with a light hold. You can start by brushing your hair back and then parting it on the side, or you can part it directly in the middle.
If you have curly hair, use a comb to smooth out any frizz and define your part further before tying your ponytail up tightly.
For the top knot hairstyle: If you have bangs or loose curls at the front of your head (as shown above), tie them into a low-key side ponytail using an elastic band before creating a high ponytail at the back of your head.
Secure it there with another elastic band so that all of your hair is gathered together without any strays sticking out from below it.
For those who don’t have bangs but still want that extra bit of height, simply wrap some hairspray around an inch section near where they would sit if they were present—this will create texture while also helping keep everything together during styling!
To style this look with chignons: First create two basic side ponytails—one on either side of where you’d like one side of your chignon to sit (i.e., if wearing glasses with temples).
Then gather all remaining loose pieces into one hand before twisting each individual strand around itself while holding onto both ends firmly until everything’s covered up nicely by itself!
It should resemble an overgrown caterpillar when done correctly 😉
